    The Best, and Very Accurate

I think all the three of the Magna-Matic 1000 models are the best on the market, and probably only something costing thousands of dollars can come close to their performance. These instruments are easy to use but so accurate, that one must get a feel for how much to grind off to keep from over compensating on the heavy end of the blade. I'm one of those people who previously thought just driving a nail into a board would suffice, but I've learned how inaccurate that is because it doesn't allow me to measure from the actual center of the blade. Having sharp and balanced blades on a mower is very important - it's common sense, so I highly recommend Magna-Matic 1000's.

    Mag-1000 balancer

Great product! One of those things that works exactly as advertised. And for those clients who stand there waiting for their blade to be sharpened, when they see the Mag-1000 in action they are very impressed.

Bought my first MAG-1000 decades ago. Unfortunately, when I sold the farm, I forgot to pack it. So now I have a brand new one. The only difference is that it is red instead of black. The good thing is that it works the same - perfectly!!

Excellent product! Magna-Matic Response: Thank you! Just for reference we powder coated the wall bracket in the early 1990's black, then in the late 1990's we went to red. Very old units from 1958 to the 1980s were painted orange.

    A fine, precision instrument

My inability to balance lawnmower blades using those silly little cones was always disappointing and annoying. The vibration affected the entire riding mower causing my feet to be numb and tingle. Three unbalanced blades did nothing to improve the already tedious hours spent mowing. Now that I can balance the blades, I sharpen them more frequently: the lawn looks better, and I am much more comfortable.

    Finally, blades that are balanced

Extraordinarily precise. Operates smoothly: virtually frictionless.

    Magna 1000 Balance

This thing is a precision instrument that works as advertised. I used to hand sharpen with a file and hope I was even but now have a more precise sharpener and using this balancer my mowing deck is night and day quieter. The cut is so much cleaner now. It is pricey but well worth the money. If you are on the fence you should buy it.

    Amazing Balancer

I have purchased 2 of these units (one for myself and one for my father) and I continue to be impressed with them every time I sharpen a set of blades. These balancers are extremely high quality and I notice a big difference in how my equipment runs when the blades are balanced using the MAG-1000 vs the old cone style balancers. One word of caution to buyers. The MAG-1000 is extremely sensitive/accurate and you could easily spend a lot of time making fine adjustments to your blades to get them balanced perfectly (maybe a little too perfectly). However, I will say that when I slap a blade I've just sharpened on there and it balances perfectly I do celebrate a little on the inside. Wonderful product and probably way more accurate than a guy who sharpens a handful of blades for himself and friends needs but this thing is definitely made to last a lifetime. 5 Stars.

Description

The MAG-1000 is the "standard in the industry" blade balancer. It has been trusted for over 60 years to provide the least cost / highest accuracy balance reading. The MAG-1000 was originated by MAGNA-MATIC in 1958, and has been the standard balancing instrument in the Outdoor Power Equipment Industry.

In the 1950's after the introductions of the rotary lawn mower to the home owner, most engine makers experienced heavy warranty work. This was because the engines did not last through the warranty period. It was quickly determined that the unbalanced blade was the cause. Balancing is a necessary part of servicing the blade. At that time most of the blades acted as the flywheel of the engine, this is still true for most walk-behind mowers today. The commercial mowers with multiple blade decks new rely on the bearing blocks. Consider that a tire on an automobile rotates at about 1000 RPM at 60 m.p.h., there is no question that your tires need to be balanced. Now consider a blade that rotates at 3000 RPM. You can now understand that seriously important to balance the blades on your mower. The vibration caused by an out-of-balance part in rotation at that speed will greatly damage the bearing blocks or crank shaft of a lawn mower. Vibration robs the mower of horse power, which will in turn reduce forward cutting speed and other aspects of the mower's performance including fuel efficiency.
